Origin Story
The S.L.A.M. (Sexuality Liberators and Movers) Conference is a virtual event dedicated to revolutionizing sexuality education with a focus on inclusivity, intersectionality, and affirming historically marginalized communities, particularly BIPOC individuals. Founded in 2020 by Stephanie Zapata, the conference was born from a need for honest truth-telling in sexuality education. It addresses the reality of America’s history of reproductive oppression against communities of color and creates space to challenge entrenched inequities.
Instead of avoiding these uncomfortable truths, S.L.A.M. places them at the forefront. The conference provides a platform for communities harmed by racism, xenophobia, transantagonism, colonialism, and ableism to share their stories, highlight ancestral knowledge, and propose creative, practical solutions for equity in education and beyond. Through keynotes, workshops, and discussions, participants can confront systemic harms and engage in liberatory practices that center bodily autonomy and safety for all.
This intentional approach is reinforced through the conference’s accessible, virtual format, its commitment to affordable programming, and the fair compensation of presenters. S.L.A.M. is a call to action for all who seek to create a more just, affirming framework for sexuality education.
