This presentation will speak to the intersections of my marginalized identities being a Black, Agender Trans, Queer, AuDHD (autistic & ADHD), multiply neurovaried+, disabled person that experiences oppression of all of those parts of myself. Having such an intersectional identity equates to me having lived experiences of marginalization that other’s privilege shields them from, impacting my perception as well as my relationships with others, especially those who subscribe to colonial authoritative sociocultural norms. Being systemically “othered”, also equates to me being perceived as “difficult” &/or “too much” which is quite isolating. As an AuDHDer, the way I communicate & relate to others opposes the typical delusional narrative of white relationship norms, also adding difficulty to my ability to foster connection. The consequence of this disconnection to others, is the erosion of my overall well-being, including my mental health, especially via lack of access to commUNITY & resources. Ultimately, who I am fundamentally challenges the white dominant ideas of “normalcy” that results in me being systemically devalued which trickles down into my individual interactions, especially my most intimate romantic connections. To say that it is exhausting having to always fight to be heard, considered, supported or understood is an understatement. That combined with the reality that most people are conditioned to lack capacity to be safe spaces, because of their privilege, equates to the potential of me making healthy connections with others, quite abysmal. This course is meant to share my lived experiences of existing within the outskirts of society & the limitations of that reality, in hopes that others may connect, empathize and learn how to hold space for those of us who are the most vulnerable of society. Note: This session will gently encourage curiosity, questions and active participation but is not a requirement. I would like to co-create & have an exchange of education in commUNITY rather than a hierarchical presenter/audience connection.
