If you’ve ever scratched your head at why curriculum and sex ed are the lackluster way that they are- my love, this is for you.
In this 4–5-hour pre-con we’ll go as far back as we can to identify the cracks in our foundation, both the intentional and unintentional gaps. In facing the truth of our history, we gain an opportunity to do things differently- with integrity – with compassion – with imagination. Steph will offer definitions to critical concepts such as intersectionality, colonialism, reproductive justice, coercion, empathy, and compassion. Once able to identify the harmful ideologies that fuel much of our reproductive health, history and education, participants will be moved through emotion-based reflection and processing. The next leg of our journey will take us through the origins of Reproductive Justice and
,
the innovative Black Women who birthed it through a human rights framework. Finally, we’ll findourselves in the creative place of reimagining. We know what has been done, we know why, so...now what comes next? Possibly for the first time in your professional career, that is entirely up to you.
 
 
Please note that this pre-con is highly likely to bring up emotions and may cause dysregulation in the form of an activated nervous system. I will hold space and containment for each of us. Know that you can feel safe in the discomfort or unfamiliarity of learning through radical truth. And should it ever become overwhelming, I want and encourage you to leave the training to tend to yourself. Do not push yourself to sit through it all for the sake of a job (read: capitalism). All registered attendees will receive the pre-con replay for 1-2 weeks, PDF copy of slides, and a resource guide for continued learning. You don’t have to do it all at once, and you certainly don’t have to do it all alone.
